Who We Really Are

Forging Tomorrow's Spaces with Timeless Vision

Aetherion Forge Studio

Our Story (The Honest Version)

Look, we're not gonna pretend we started in someone's garage with nothing but dreams and a drafting table. But we did start small back in 2018, just three architects who were tired of seeing Vancouver's skyline get cluttered with soulless glass boxes that nobody asked for.

What bugs us most? Buildings that ignore their surroundings. Structures that'll be obsolete in twenty years. Spaces that look great in photos but feel awful to actually be in. So yeah, we decided to do things differently - focusing on designs that actually make sense for the people using them and the environment they're part of.

Fast forward to now, and we've grown to a team of fifteen. We've worked on everything from cozy residential projects in Kitsilano to major commercial developments downtown. Some projects went perfectly, others taught us hard lessons (like that time we underestimated winter wind patterns - whoops). But that's how you get better, right?

Elena Mortensen

Principal Architect & Founder

Started her career restoring heritage buildings in Copenhagen before moving to Vancouver in 2015. She's obsessed with timber construction and can talk your ear off about passive house standards. Outside the office, she's probably hiking the North Shore or fixing up her 1920s Craftsman in Mount Pleasant.

Marcus Chen

Lead Urban Planner

UBC grad who spent five years working on mixed-use developments across Metro Van. He's the guy who actually understands zoning bylaws (seriously, all of them). Marcus pushes us to think bigger about how our buildings fit into neighborhoods. Also makes the best coffee in the studio.

Sarah Okafor

Sustainability Director

Environmental engineer turned architect who won't let us cut corners on green building practices. She's certified in LEED, Passive House, and a bunch of other acronyms we can't remember. Sarah's the reason our projects actually hit their energy targets instead of just looking eco-friendly.

James Nakamura

Senior Interior Designer

Trained in Tokyo before relocating here three years ago. James has this uncanny ability to make small spaces feel huge and big spaces feel cozy. He's particular about lighting (like, really particular) but clients love him because he actually listens to how they want to live in their spaces.

Rebecca Torres

Heritage Specialist

The person we call when dealing with any building over 50 years old. Rebecca's worked on heritage projects from Gastown to Yaletown and knows every preservation regulation by heart. She's passionate about keeping Vancouver's architectural history alive while making old buildings work for modern life.

David Kowalski

Commercial Projects Lead

Former contractor who switched to architecture because he got tired of fixing other people's design mistakes. Dave brings real-world construction knowledge that saves our clients money and headaches. He's brutally honest about what'll work and what won't - which is exactly why we need him.

How We Actually Work

Forget the fancy architecture firm stereotypes. Yeah, we've got the big monitors and the scale models, but mostly we're just a bunch of people who care way too much about things like door swing radius and natural light angles.

Every Friday we do design reviews where anyone can (and will) tear apart your ideas - sounds harsh but it's how we catch problems before they become expensive mistakes. We also keep our clients involved at every step because, honestly, it's their building and they know better than us how they'll use it.

And yeah, we're big on sustainability but not in that preachy way. It's just smart design - buildings that cost less to run, last longer, and don't trash the environment. Win-win-win.
